For the Cabinet Office's Infected Blood Compensation Authority we built a secure cloud-native Azure data platform that unified all case data and was designed to be AI-ready, paving the way for automated document triage in a second phase. What does an AI consultancy do for a government organisation?
It helps you decide where AI is worth using, get the data and governance in place that it depends on, and take the chosen use cases into live service within the rules that apply to government. In practice that means a readiness assessment, a prioritised set of use cases, work on data ownership, quality and lineage, a platform that can serve AI securely, and the transparency, data protection and security controls a public body is expected to have.
Why do public sector AI pilots fail to reach production?
Usually because of data and operations rather than the model. The data has no accountable owner, quality is not measured, lineage is unknown, the lawful basis for the new use was never agreed, or nobody planned how the service would be run, monitored and supported after the pilot. We assess those foundations first so that a pilot is designed to go live, not just to demonstrate.
What rules apply to using AI in UK government?
The AI Playbook for the UK Government, published in February 2025, sets out 10 principles for using AI lawfully, ethically, securely and with meaningful human control. The Algorithmic Transparency Recording Standard is mandatory for all government departments, and for arm's-length bodies that deliver public or frontline services or interact directly with the public, so in-scope algorithmic tools need a published record. UK GDPR applies to any personal data, usually with a data protection impact assessment, and NCSC guidance covers the security risks.
How do you assess AI readiness?
We look at the use cases you are considering and test each one against the data it needs, the skills and ownership in place, the governance and lawful basis, and the platform it would run on. The output is a prioritised list of use cases, the foundation work each one needs, and the order to do it in, so that investment goes first where it unlocks the most.
