Integrated Data Service and Reference Data Management Framework
Delivered privacy-preserving anonymisation workflows and a unified reference data hub for ONS's Integrated Data Service, enabling secure cross-government data sharing at scale across billions of records.
The Challenge
Sensitive micro data from multiple departments had to be de-identified, quality checked and linked without exposing personal information. Disparate geo-spatial datasets needed harmonising into a single, governed catalogue to enable consistent national-to-local analysis while meeting the UK Statistics Authority's stringent security standards.
Our Solution
Delivered privacy-preserving anonymisation workflows incorporating differential risk controls and automated disclosure checks for every dataset ingested into IDS. Implemented a reference data hub unifying geo-spatial codes, health, labour market and demographic lookups, with APIs that let analysts combine datasets across departments.
The Outcome
Researchers can discover, join and analyse previously siloed data to accelerate evidence-based policy design. Geo-spatial alignment ensures every dataset carries a common location spine for consistent national and regional insights. Robust anonymisation and governance frameworks de-risk data sharing, allowing wider departmental participation in IDS.
